Mommy Monday: Kellie Nasser

8:00 AM

Kellie is a mother, a wife, Beautycounter consultant, blogger and overall inspiring woman.... I'm so honored to feature her and interview her in the latest installment of "Mommy Mondays." I met Kellie through the wonderful world of Instagram and I've appreciated her positive thoughts on my pregnancy and her advice on beauty. I continue to be amazed by Kellie through this interview... I hope you're inspired too!

Q YOUR DAY IN A NUTSHELL

Hectic! I wake up around 6:45,  get dressed and do my morning beauty routine.  While the kids eat breakfast, I'll write my daily affirmations while on my second cup of coffee. Then, we're out the door to walk to their schools. With some free time, I run errands, blog, follow up with Beautycounter clients, tackle the never ending laundry pile and prep dinner. Then I pick the kids up from school and spend a little time at the playground. We're home by 4:00 and they relax with a TV show (bless you Paw Patrol) and I'll do a quick workout.  My husband, Jeff, gets home around 6:15 and we all have dinner together.  Our wind-down typically starts around 7:30 with baths, books and dodging excuses to go to bed. Once the kids are asleep, Jeff and I relax a little and it's lights out before 10.

Q HOW DO YOU BALANCE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE WHILE BEING A BUSY MOMMY

I feel it all starts with your grocery list. If you pack the house with healthy foods then you don't have any other option. The kids are at a point where they can grab their own snacks so the fruit basket is within reach and yogurt and veggies go on the bottom shelf of the fridge.

Q WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO RECIPE FOR DINNER IN FIFTEEN MINUTES

Use Amazon delivery.  Ha!  At home, the crowd pleaser is chicken and roasted vegetables. Throw a package of chicken thighs with olive oil, lemon, garlic, rosemary and thyme in a baking dish at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes. Chop some veggies, toss in olive oil, salt + pepper and roast in the oven with the chicken.

Q WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN EXPECTING MOTHER

This is a time when you will learn to be truly selfless, but that doesn't mean taking care of yourself is selfish.  Moms are doing so much to ensure their kids are safe and healthy, but not doing enough for themselves.  You can't function on fumes and exhaustion. Give yourself time to recharge from time to time and it will do wonders.

Q WHAT ARE YOUR MORNING AND NIGHTLY BEAUTY RITUALS

In the morning, I keep it simple since I'm trying to get out the door.  I just wash my face with water. Then I'll use a serum like Drunk Elephant Vitamin C Firma Serum .  I then use my Rose Quartz facial roller to waken up my skin.  The coolness in the morning always feels so refreshing under my eyes.  Then I do a 5 minute face:  with my dew skinconcealer, RMS Lip2Cheek blush,  champagne colored eye shadow, brow and mascara.  During school days I barely use a makeup brush and rely on my fingers.

At night, I usually wash my face and brush my teeth while the kids are taking a bath. I am really into cleansing balms these days. My favorite is the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm. After,  I like to mix it up - a sheet maskclay maskexfoliator - whatever I think my skin needs that day.  Then I finish with a moisturizer like the Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream

Q SINCE BECOMING A MOM, HOW HAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD CHANGED?

When I was pregnant, I read French Kids Eat Everything and Bringing Up Bebe.  Reading about the French approach to food did a step change for me.  For my kids, I wanted to encourage the enjoyment of food - not instill anxiety about it.  I love the mantra:  You don't have to like it, but you have to try it.  My husband and I love to experience all different types of foods - Indian, Mexican, Middle Eastern - and we didn't want to become short order cooks at dinner so they needed to eat what we eat. The biggest downside has been all the rice cleanup.

Q NAME YOUR 5 HEALTHY LIVING MUST-HAVES?
  1. Black High Waisted LeggingsPerfect for running errands, a workout, or just to feel like I'm about to do something healthy.  Plus, a high waist is every mom's best friend.
  2. A non-toxic Body Lotion:   Our skin is our largest organ. So all that product you slather over it should be clean.  My favorite is the Beautycounter Body Butter
  3. Skincando Combat Ready Balmfrom bug bites to chapped skin, this heals everything
  4. Protein bars: Some days I'm running out the door and who knows when lunch is happening. I love the taste and transparency of RX bars. All the ingredients are on the front!
  5. An Inspiring Book:   Reading or hearing about the routines of successful people always motivates me. The book Tools of the Titans shares short stories of icons and world-class performers broken out in three sections:  Healthy, Wealthy and Wise
