Mommy Monday: Jessica Klein

8:00 AM

Dearest Friends,

Jessica is a mother, a wife, a brilliant interior designer and blogger... I'm so excited to feature her and interview her in the latest installment of "Mommy Monday". I first met Jessica last year when she was decorating our home! Jessica was also a wonderful mentor when I started my blog last fall. I got to ask Jessica about her upcoming half marathon, her passion for natural beauty, and balancing motherhood while running a business

Q YOUR DAY IN A NUTSHELL

6:30am/7:00am- Typically my day begins by scrolling through Instagram and taking a quick peek at my email before getting ready for the day. Evie wakes up around this time and my husband spends a little time with her before heading to work. I try to make coffee and walk our dog, Bella, before my husband heads out.
8:00/8:30am- Breakfast and Evie's nanny arrives. She helps us Monday through Wednesday 8:30am-1:00pm while I work.
1:00pm- Evie goes down for a nap until 3:30 or 4:00pm so I really get a full day of work Monday through Wednesday. Thursdays and Fridays are our days together. I try to schedule errands on these days and we usually head to the park or a playdate!
4:00pm- We head out for either a run or a walk. If it's bad weather or I'm feeling lazy, we hang out and watch Little Einsteins or play!
6:30pm- I start making dinner and Cody gets home around this time. He will give Evie a bath and do her nighttime routine.
8:00pm- Evie's bedtime!
9:00pm- I'll finish any extra work that didn't get done during the day or binge watch our latest Netflix obsession! Right now it's Ozark... I always fall asleep about 15 minutes in.

Q HOW DO YOU BALANCE A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE WHILE BEING A BUSY MOMMY

This is a work in progress, but here are a few times that have recently helped me feel more balanced which to me means, more time.

1. Since I'm training for a half-marathon, we invested in a jogging stroller and it's been a lifesaver for when my husband can't be home in time for me to go on a run. Evie and I typically run after her nap in the afternoon and it's crazy how a little activity boosts your energy throughout the day.

2. We use Amazon Fresh which has fantastic produce and they deliver same day or next day and that's been such a time-saver. We used to use Instacart, but I'm saving more money with Amazon Fresh (even with the $15/month fee) and I'm find the produce to be much better!

3. I make sure I get enough sleep, take time for self-care (like getting a massage after a long run or taking a bath / having a spa night), attending fun events or going out to eat with friends, anything that refuels my energy and positivity that helps me be a good mother is prioritized. P.S. this is what I need as a mama, but of course it looks different for everyone!

Q WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO RECIPE FOR DINNER IN FIFTEEN MINUTES

Good question! Probably a quinoa bowl (quinoa, spinach, turkey, maple syrup, and a friend egg on top) or a chicken wrap (spinach or other greens, chicken, cucumbers, feta cheese, and hummus).

Q WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN EXPECTING MOTHER

Keep in mind everything is a phase so don't worry if the first two months aren't your favorite and/or are just plain hard, it gets easier! Don't hesitate to ask for help and never forget, you are doing the best you can. :)

Q WHAT ARE YOUR MORNING AND NIGHTLY BEAUTY RITUALS

I've developed quite the natural skincare obsession over the past few years!

Night: I take off my makeup with RMS coconut oil wipes, then I wash my face with either Indie Lee's rosehip face wash or Tata Harper's purifying cleanser (and every other night I use an exfoliator). I finish with (my favorite) Vintner's Daughter serum, Indie Lee's face oil, and sleep on a Illuminage pillowcase.

Day: I typically will either wash my face if it doesn't seem too dry or use a toner to quickly clean off my face and then apply another oil and Josh Rosebrook's moisturizer with SPF. Then I apply a bit of makeup, usually just Ilia Beauty's tinted moisturizer with SPF and a little RMS Beauty blush and W3ll People mascara. If I have a meeting or an event, I will use a foundation, setting powder, and add a little eyeliner in addition to the above. You can pretty much find everything I use at Follain (include link). Emily and I share a similar love for that gorgeous shop. :)

Q WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE STUDIOS IN BOSTON? FAVORITE RESTAURANTS?

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Row34 for the best warm lobster roll & oysters, Hotel Envoy for drinks, walking the streets of Beacon Hill, the Harbor Walk (where most of my runs happen), Hudson Store in the South End (favorite spot for furniture and home decor), Flour and Tatte Bakery for a coffee and pasty, The Boston Public Library (they have a great area for kids too!), the list goes on and on!

Q NAME YOUR 5 HEALTHY LIVING MUST-HAVES?

1. Josh Rosebrook's hydrating accelerator
2. RMS Beauty living luminizer
3. Glossier's rose balm dotcom
4. Beauty Counter's lip glosses
5. May Lindstrom's masks
(adding an extra: Tata Harper anything!)
